Annotation: The article discusses the means for expressing religious and philosophical content in clavier compositions by I.S. Baha: motif and numerical symbolism, etc. Musical and rhetorical figures are considered as a kind of musical lexicon of the era. Particular attention is paid to the semantic interpretation of the keys in the Baroque era. It is noted that the use of a particular tes situra also had an additional semantic load. The study revealed that the motif symbolism conveys sacred meanings with sound combinations that have certain meanings. The numerical and alphabetic symbols used in the composition of a musical work are combined with the well-known tradition of numerical symbolism in Christianity: the sacred names, concepts and words had their numerical expressions according to the correspondence of the letters of the Latin alphabet to their serial number
Keywords: semantics, choral, musical symbolism, numbers, tonality, tessitura
