Effect of Forest on Water Soil Mode

Annotation:  Scientific research conducted at the Novosil Zonal Agroforestry Experimental Station showed that the average moisture reserves in a meter layer of soil during the growing season under oak stands are higher than in pine stands. In most cases, oak plantations consume more moisture, and their water absorbing capacity is greater than in pine stands. This was shown by the results of studying elements of the water balance. On average, for three years the total moisture consumption over the vegetation period was 79–83 % under the control of pine plantations and 94–92 % under oak plantations. The reason for the decrease in soil moisture under pine stands at a depth of 1 m in comparison with oak is explained by the presence of a thick layer of high-moisture bedding under pine plantations and closer to the surface by the placement of the root system near the pine
