Chernozem Regions in the Agrolandscape-Ecological Zoning of the Central Federal District

Annotation:  The agrolandscape-ecological zoning of the Central federal district of the Russian Federation has been developed with the purpose of taking into account the territorial differences in natural and economic conditions, increasing the informativeness of targeted extrapolation of technologies for improving and using agroecosystems, and ensuring the stability of agrolandscapes. 40 units of zoning are allocated. The southern part of the Central Federal District (chernozem regions) is located in three natural and agricultural areas – broad-leaved forest (7 %), forest-steppe (75 %) and steppe (18 %). For chernozem regions, the effect of changes in the structure of sown areas on the humus state of soils is estimated. Over the past 20 years, the proportion of perennial grasses has decreased significantly fr om 10–12 to 2–3 %, while the share of sunflower has increased 2–15 times (from 1–10 % to 9–22 % in different regions). A significant decrease in the humus content in the arable layer of typical chernozems was noted from 10–13 % in 1881 to 4–8 % in 2010 (93 % of the surveyed arable land in the Tambov region, wh ere typical chernozems predominate). Measures are recommended for rational management of agrolandscapes and preservation of soil fertility
