Annotation:  The paper deals with the material aspects of the history of late classical high schools that are most likely to archaeological research conducted on evidence from written sources. Particular attention is given to buildings in Athens ("House of Proclus" and others.), which can be interpreted as the school buildings, as well as provides information about in-like buildings in other cities of the empire
