Annotation:  The author identifies as key areas that characterize the experiment at the initial stage of formation, such as empiricism, rationalism, and mysticism. The main stages of the experiment development are revealed, and the role of the metaphysical bases of the experiment is determined. The metaphysical interpretation of the number as the final result of all experimental research acquires conceptual significance. As a methodological principle, we propose the humanitarian archaeology of numbers, which allows us to discover new aspects of the humanitarian and cultural significance of numbers, in the worldview aspect opposed to the rational globalism of numbers. Recognition of the metaphysical nature of numbers as an effective factor in the numerical perception of the world can return the spiritual potential of the world transformation to the experimental-mathematical resource. The number that allows you to move to the spiritual and moral level, an experiment permeated with a metaphysical and spiritual vocation – only in this way is it possible to overcome the crisis of the spiritless state of modern scientific knowledge.

Keywords:  metaphysics of number, philosophy of mathematics, moral value of science, history of experiment.
