Annotation:  The article deals with urban communities-local urban social formations that are poorly reflected and do not have morphological properties. Urban community formation dynamics the process becoming idea about from associations of the so-called urban activists as a social community and actors of urban space to organizations with unique strategies and practices for the self-preservation of society is considered. Cultural-social and anthropological theories, in which the formation of ideas about urban communities, demonstrate, according to the author, the difficulties of theoretical conceptualization of the concept of "urban community", which makes the theme of urban communities promising for researches. The involvement of citizens in the city life of the through urban communities is a possible way to create a smart urban environment of the city, convenient for living.
