Annotation:  The relevance of the work is to analyze the features of the realization of creative potential in scientific and cognitive activity, which opens up the possibility for society to optimize this process by creating favorable conditions for a heuristic breakthrough, in which our society is extremely interested, since science is today the engine of progressive development. The purpose of the study is to identify the characteristics of a creative person, types of perception of her environment, positive and negative aspects of her creative thinking. The signs and factors of the occurrence of the phenomenon of creativity in scientific and cognitive activity are revealed, the main prerequisites for the emergence of a creative principle in scientific activity and art are revealed. The value of the heuristic ability of the human intellect to operate with informational “capital” is assessed, which is a prerequisite in productive creative thinking and the disclosure of a person’s creative potential. The negative aspects of creative thinking and the main signs of “chaotic potential” that can occur in the consciousness of a creative person are analyzed. The degree of creativity through the prism of non-standard thinking of the creator, be it a scientist or an artist, is considered. The signs of schizoid thinking, which is so often present in geniuses in all types of human activity, are analyzed. Two sides of the motivation of a creative person are considered. Scientific novelty lies in the analysis of the psychological characteristics of the creator of new ideas, which can give an impetus to research the scientist’s creative potential and create conditions for the highest degree of actualization of his creative abilities. The results of the work may be useful for researchers in various fields of heuristics.
