Annotation: The article is devoted to the study of the nature and current state of the state policy in the field of social protection of the family in the Russian Federation. The criteria of its effectiveness, the nature of the transformations occurring, as well as the dependence on a number of environmental factors, most of which are globalizing, are considered. The characteristic of the main objectives of public policy and challenges in its initiation, development and implementation is given. The regulatory mechanism for its implementation is analyzed. The emphasis is accented on the relationship of family and youth state policy while ensuring the social protection of the family institution. The object of the research is the system of social protection of the family, and the subject is the conceptual foundations and problems of implementing state policy in the Russian Federation. Both general scientific (analysis, synthesis, analogy, description, abstraction, generalization, idealization, induction, deduction) and specialized political science approaches and methods of scientific knowledge (anthropological, political, legal, sociological, statistical) are used.
