PLACE OF THE FEAST IN POSTMODERN CULTURE

Annotation:  This work makes an attempt to uncover actual features of a modern feast. Also author tries to comprehend of the place of the feast in modern culture through the prism of its most popular kinds (like professional feasts) and identify the main components of feast that make it up. Particular attention in the article is devoted to the components of the holiday. The most necessary of them are the ritual complex, the special festive place and time (combination of this elements is calling “chronotope”), and the most important – the event. Nowadays event is becoming a tool for creating “ephemera holidays”, which are a serious problem for modern festive culture, because of its negative influence on society. The types of holiday which are considered in the work make it possible to understand and feel the problems of society and its aspirations because feasts are a reflection of time. Also article is considering functions performed by the holiday. The immediate goal of the work – is to understand the modern holiday and its place through the prism of its current features. It affects the functions performed by the holiday (ideological, transmission of social experience, social, communication, compensatory, aesthetic, emotional and psychological). It is emphasized that these functions exist at the same time and equally expose the participants of the event to their impact, which is an indicator of a true holiday. Strengthening any of the functions turns the holiday into an official campaign meeting or mass entertainment.
