Annotation:  The author in the generalizing article devoted to V.V. Sokolov addresses a problem of the beginning of the philosophy, the most characteristic of the famous scientist. Emphasizing the role of drevnevostochny science in the philosophy birth, Sokolov noted its initial applied character. In ancient Egypt and Babylonia the philosophy in the conditions of low reflexivity and the undeveloped personal beginning could not arise. In Ancient Greece, with dynamisms of public life and progress of the individual and personal beginning, characteristic of it, sheet thinking in which space the philosophy for the first time appears forms. Ethical reflections and social analogies allow to pass from the teogonicheskikh of versions to cosmogonic constructions and from search of the genetic beginning to justification the substantsionalnykh of the bases of the universe, as marks the birth and development of philosophy.
