The modern concepts of the globalization: the principles of typology

Annotation:  The article discusses the most well-known concepts of globalization, and attempts are made to highlight the principles of their typology. Accordingly, the main method reflected in the title of the work, was the method of typology, which implies the integration of existing globalization concepts into the ideal types chosen by the author. The first such criterion can be called the principle of its temporal duration or, more simply, the answer to the question: «How long does globalization last?». On its basis, three types of concepts are distinguished: theories that treat globalization as a timeless global phenomenon that has been observed throughout the history of mankind; concepts considering the phenomenon of globalization through the prism of economic, transport, etc. development, and defining its start in the interval of the late Middle Ages (XV–XVI centuries); views of the authors who believe that the processes that gave rise to globalization are unprecedented and belong to the mid-end of the twentieth century. The following principle of typology is represented by some extension of the latter group, which suggests that globalization is modern. It consists in determining the category of significance and direction of the changes it brings and implies an answer to the question: «What is the outcome of globalization processes?». Based on this principle, two basic types of concepts are distinguished, conditionally defined as 1) revolutionary and 2) evolutionary. Examples of other, more common typologies are the division of views on globalization as a subjective or, on the contrary, objective process. Another popular type of typology is its division into spheres within it, and highlighting the concepts of economical, technological, informational, political, environmental and other globalizations. As a result, it can be said that for the most part the typologies of the concepts of globalization are based on an attempt to define its essence and highlight in it the aspect that is considered by a certain group of authors as the most important.
