Annotation: On the basis of the concept of functioning of the city as a sociobiotechnical system, functioning on the model of metabolism, an attempt is made to comprehend the process of development of urban culture, which in modern conditions integrates, along with traditional - social, technical and biological compo-nents. It is proved that its development also acquires a metabolic character and includes four successive stages: "input" (accumulation of "substances") – conversion (decomposition of "substances" into simple and simultaneous formation and consumption of complex) - "output" (waste disposal into the environ-ment). It is emphasized that the development of the idea of the concept of metabolic urban culture, ade-quate to the general logic of the development of sociological knowledge. It will help to overcome the lim-ited understanding of urban cultural dynamics as a result of the impact of predominantly (or even exclu-sively) social (although in the broad sense of the concept) factors and will reveal the integrative mecha-nisms of culture formation in urban space. The perspective directions of research of process of metabo-lism of urban culture are defined.
Keywords: spatial development, sociobiotechnical systems, global-local processes, "metabolization" of the urban space, urban culture
