Annotation:  In this article the author analyzes the particular qualities of the formation of social law system in Russia in the era of Ivan the Terrible on the example of several incidents from everyday administrative practice of the 50s – 60 s of XVI century. The author connects the development of measures to create social law system with the «royal discourse». This «discourse» was developed by the church and included the idea of the king’s duty to protect widows and orphans among other things. The author comes to the conclusion that although specific laws on this issue have not reached our days, the existence of a corresponding royal sentence is more than likely. This verdict, which legitimized and developed the tradition that had been formed earlier, was actively used by the commanders in resolving issues of social security for the protection of the families of those service people who fell and died in the royal service.

Keywords:  Early Modern, Russia, Ivan the Terrible, Стоглавый a cathedral, nobility, social protection, a family.
