The author reveals the problems of the functioning of journals connected with the economic and political transformations of society; shows how the editions through the change of subjects not only reflected socio-political and economic transformations, but also sought to interact with the audience, formed its ideological, moral and moral characteristics, practical skills. By 1918, many periodicals were closed, the editorial offices of which conducted effective commercial activities in the pre-revolutionary period. The mass female press also belonged to the costeffective periodicals. «Zhurnal dlya hozyaek» («Magazine for hostesses»), «Vestnik mody» («Messenger of fashion») − publications that were published in 1918, despite the financial losses of their publishers (magazines will continue their work in 1922−1926.). Due to the change in the conditions of functioning (increase in prices for paper and publishing services, deterioration in the quality of printing, the introduction of the state monopoly on advertising, etc.), the editorial offices of women's magazines were forced to reduce the frequency, increase prices for publications. Changing themes reflected the transformation of the living conditions of the population and its needs. The key topic was political: analytical publications («Zhurnal dlya hozyaek»), the editor's column, appeals from the publisher, responses to letters («Vestnik mody») negatively assessed the political destabilization of society. The economic crisis has determined the interest of publications in the publication of materials describing changes in the quality of food, life, leisure, as well as advice on the production of necessary products at home.
