Annotation: The paper reveals the ways of contrast’s implementation in semantic-syntactic aspect on the material of German press. The authors of the articles of the daily analytical newspaper “Die Welt” and the weekly analytical magazine “Der Spiegel” trace the interpretation of the events that took place on August 7, 2008 in South Ossetia. Conducting independent investigations, the German journalists focus on the events of the five day bloody war. Their investigations result in comparing the opposite points of view, contradictory information. They illustrate the actions of the heads of state multidimensionally. The analysis of the German press is a relevant material for linguistic and social research, which emphasizes the importance of its contribution to the development of comparative linguistics, helping to form a holistic understanding of the socio-political process of past events. The paper clearly defines six types of antonymy in the German press: contrasting presentation of information, comparison, opposition, comparison, identification, addition, on the basis of which the following types of semantic relations based on the phenomenon of antonymy are distinguished: conjunction, comparison and opposition, disjunction, alternation, designation of universality, contradiction, mutual transformation of opposites into each other
Keywords: contrast in the text, semantic-syntactic aspect, antonymous relations, journalistic text
