Analysis of communicative strategies and tactics in conflict situations (based on tv series "Scrubs»)

Annotation:  The paper reveals prevailing strategies and tactics of speech behavior in the situation of conflict in American linguistic culture. The material for the study is conflict situations in television series "Scrubs". Six strategies used by representatives of American linguistic culture in the situation of conflict are identified. They are aggression, manipulation, active-neutral strategy, passive-neutral strategy, compliance and compromise. The strategic line of aggression is a dominant one. It is manifested in the tactics of insult, indignation, accusation, threat, tactic of indirect expression of meaning and reproach. Manipulative strategy is expressed by the tactics of reproach, request, threat, interruption of the interlocutor and indignation. Active-neutral strategy is implemented by tactics of interruption, control over the initiative, change of theme, as well as ignoring. Passive-neutral strategy is performed by tactics of ignoring, reticence and silence. Several cases of changing strategy are revealed. On the one hand an aggressive strategy can be replaced by a strategy of compliance. On the other hand an aggressive strategy is replaced by a compromise
