Annotation: In this article, the communicative and cognitive essence of the concepts of bicentric structure, which are found in Leonid Andreev's literary texts, is substantiated. Due to the specificity of the idiolect of his works, they reflected the key problems of Russian society, topical for the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The concepts of the bicentric structure can be bipolar, binary and binary. In this article, we focus on bipolar concepts. In particular, the associative-semantic field "Silence" is considered, which is a kind of explication of the concept "Life", which acquires in the story of Leonid Andreev "Silence" the status of bipolar. The means and methods for explication of the concept "Life" are revealed and described and its bipolar nature is substantiated through the construction of the structure of the associative-semantic field of the keyword. The relevance of the study is determined by the need to understand the bipolarity of the cognitive structure of the artistic concept, the text-forming role of which in the oppositional discourse remains a white spot for linguapoetics. In addition, for the first time, a description of the essential features of the oppositional discourse as a communicative event is presented, the thought-based modeling of which is determined by the cognitive synergy of contrast emanating from the author's contradictory perception of life's realities, his subjective experience. The idea of this article is that the bipolar concept, serving as the meaning-generating core of the "oppositional discourse" of Leonid Andreev, expresses in every concrete manifestation the acute experience of the author of the main neurotic factor: inability to adapt to unpredictable social changes. In this connection, the linguistic mechanisms of the incarnation of the writer's inner conflict through individual author's methods of verbalization of the bipolar concept are explored.
