Annotation: Quite a large number of pre-revolutionary provincial publications in Russia is still out of the field of view of researchers. Until recently, in the history of Volgograd journalism Tsaritsyno pre-revolutionary press as an independent socio-cultural phenomenon was not considered. Publications of city periodicals were attracted by researchers mainly in the form of factual material on the history of the development of the Volgograd region and its culture in particular. In this regard, it is important to study the Volgograd re-gional journalism, as it allows to recreate a more complete and objective panorama not only of the socio-cultural environment of a particular region, but also of the Russian information and cultural space as a whole. The article discusses edition (trial), published in the early XX century, Tsaritsyn, Saratov prov-ince. The author analyzes the literary component of its context, represented by literary and artistic, liter-ary-critical and artistic-publicistic discourses, as well as its role in the typological identification of the publication. It should be noted that this printed body is practically not studied and is not included in the historical turnover, except that it is mentioned in the manuals on the pre-revolutionary periodicals of the Russian Empire and local history literature. The implementation of research tasks was achieved on the basis of the use of documents extracted from the funds of the Russian state historical archive, the state archive of the Volgograd region, the funds of the Volgograd regional Museum, the hall of rare and valua-ble publications of the Volgograd regional universal scientific library.
