Annotation:  The patriotic idea in the Old Russian texts is considered as a category interconnected with the history and character of the formation of Old Russian culture and the Moscow State. It is argued that the foundation on which the entire construction of the patriotic idea was built was the hierarchical principle of understanding the world. Leading components, forming a patriotic idea, were ideas about the nature, role and purpose of power, the Russian land, the dominant type of man. Thus, the figure of the tsar acquired a sacred significance not only by the "fact" of origin, but also through the identification of power with the moral concepts of the Good, representations of the correct social order. The protection of this social and moral unity from numerous enemies (external and internal) was the main task of the authorities. An ideal man in Old Russian texts became a serviceman-a "warrior", disciplined and ready for self-denial
