Annotation: The article is devoted to the tradition of “pechalovaniye” - church leaders' intercession for prisoners - in the context of social service of mercy. The author highlights the succession of theological and existential-ontological essence of this tradition, traces back the history of this practice and discusses its reflection in the contemporary human rights mission of Russian Orthodox Church
