Annotation: Diversification of production is an important issue of Russian industry development. The issues of industrial diversification are related to structural policy. Currently, diversification of industrial production in Russia is declining. Many regions have a nondiversified industrial structure. However this does not prevent some of them fr om remaining leaders in the average of GDP. These regions have a special commodity status and are specialized actors nationwide. In a same time, most regions should seek to diversify industrial production. This is wh ere the role of the state in the processes of territorial placement of industrial plants comes to the fore
