Annotation:  In the article at the level of requirements of industrial refractometry and spectrophotometry the results of experimental studies of the optical properties of the black liquor from sulphate pulp are presented. The dependences of the refractive index of the black liquor at concentrations of the absolutely dry matter in the range from 0 to 70 %, and its temperature coefficient in the range from 15 C to 90 C, as well as their transmittance in the visible range of wavelengths are received. The convergence of the experimental data of the refractive index on temperature for the black liquor with a concentration of dry matter with approximarely direct is not worse Δn ≤ 0,04 % is determined
