Annotation:  One of the main resources for economic growth and national security factor is the scientific and labor potential of the country, which is dependent on the quality of education in the country. The article examined the relationship of labor quality academic staff and the size of their salaries. The object of investigation was made by one of the universities of Ufa. The purpose of identifying the relationship level of quality of work of academic staff and remuneration for their work was to develop methods to increase motivation of academic staff. Labor quality level estimated by the authors' rating scale, which provides estimates of indicators (proficiency, responsibility, initiative, discipline, relationship with the team) and corresponding maximum quantitative evaluation in points, distributed in four degrees of manifestation of the quality (very high, high, not very high, low). In the study, the results of quantitative assessments of the quality of work and level of employees showed a trend, the coefficients of pair correlation between the level of quality of work and remuneration for work are determined. Weak link is established between these indicators and the reasons for this are studied. The result proved that the quality of work of scientific and pedagogical workers is not affected significantly by the size of the salary earned by them and compensation for work divorced from the level of the quality of work. Examples of wages organization in other countries are also considered
