Annotation: The article is devoted to the everyday life of the city of Kursk province during the end of XIX-th – beginning of XX-th centuries. The article analyzes the characteristics of the labour practices of the members of municipal public administrations of Kursk province in terms of the modernization process of the late XIX-th – early XX-th centuries on the basis of a wide range of archival sources. Authors paid attention to the social composition of city councils and district councils of the province, professional competence and qualification of the members of the city public offices. The article discusses issues related to the functioning of the municipal authorities in the territory of the Kursk province. The authors analyze the issues of citizens participation in local self-government in specific historical and regional contexts.
