Annotation:  This article provides an overview of new monographic studies on the history of Early Byzantium, published in 2016–2018. In this case, four books are scientific monographs, and one is the popular science. Three monographs were published in 2018, which indicates an undoubted growth of attention to this period in the national historical science. In addition, during 2017–2018. 7 theses on Early Byzantine topics were defended at the Belgorod National Research University, which was a certain result of the long previous work of the University’s Scientific Direction “Classical and Byzantine Tradition”. The works in general affect different topics, but create a foundation for further breakthrough in this scientific direction. Among the most popular stories are personalia (Emperor Justinian and various directions of his policy; Empress and poetess Athenais-Evdokia, leaders of “high school” and “scholars”), as well as problems of the pagan opposition to the Christianization of the empire. Among the dissertations, two are devoted to early Byzantine Gaza in Palestine, the rest to John Malala, women in the context of vertical social mobility, Germans in Early Byzantium, and military affairs of the Justinian era.
