Annotation:  The article analyzes the formation process of the Middle East strategy of the leading Western countries in the initial period of the cold war. The complex factors influencing their foreign policy actions in the Middle East, aimed at connecting the countries of the region to the activities of NATO and at the same time, preventing the growth of Soviet influence in these countries, strengthening its Middle East positions are identified. The role of Germany in the Middle East joint actions of the West is disclosed: in particular, its course to the normalization of relations with Israel through the conclusion of the reparations agreement (despite the protests in the Arab camp) is traced. It is stated that the establishment of practical relations between the two countries was an important link in the overall strategy of the West in the Middle East, in the approach of the US and its Atlantic partners to the settlement of the Arab-Israeli conflict and the Palestinian question. The 1952 reparation agreement was an important step towards the rapprochement between the FRG and Israel
