Some lexical manifestations of territorial English of Nigeria

Annotation:  The article is devoted to the study of lexical features of the territorial version of the English language in Nigeria in different periods of its historical development. The authors analyze the linguistic and cultural peculiarities of the territorial version of the English language in Nigeria and depicts some of its individual lexical units. The key point that affected all areas of the country's life is the ethnic variation of the countries of Africa in general and one of the largest countries in West Africa - Nigeria in particular. According to the ethnic composition of the country, more than 80% of Nigerians are represented by ten tribes, the main of which are Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, Fulbe, Bini and others, an important feature is the preservation of their culture and language. Multiple variations of a huge number of international and interethnic languages have led to the urgent need to create a unified means of communication – a language that is not native to any of the peoples of Nigeria. One of the most appropriate options in this situation is the use of English as a means of global international communication. English has the status of official language in Nigeria, it is the language of national Media and Education. Special attention in the article is paid to the analysis of linguistic and cultural features of the territorial version of the English language of Nigeria in the field of lexical manifestations
