Annotation:  The article is devoted to the problems of strengthening the independence of the Russian agro-food market and creating conditions for import substitution. The introduced sanctions of the European Union and counterassaults of Russia can be viewed, on the one hand, as a chance for domestic producers of agricultural products, and on the other, as a food threat to the population and the country as a whole. The article considers the reasons for the decrease in the volume of imported food products. The directions of state regulation of imports under conditions of sanctions are indicated. The imposed food embargo promotes the expansion of cooperation on the supply of food from developing countries, however, the primary task is to increase the production of domestic products and expand trade within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union.
